Introducing RB Sellars ✕ The Grampians Goods Co

We have teamed up with RB Sellars and created thoughtful and beautiful recycled wool tartan blankets to rug up in this winter or better yet to share a beautiful picnic with your nearest and dearest.

The Grampians Goods Co Founder, Amanda Cochran

Take a read of the interview by RB Sellars with our Founder, Amanda Cochran.....

You set out to create a brand that offered thoughtfully created and authentic products that provide a connection to something deeper. What do you believe that deeper connection is?

When I first started GGCO, I was incredibly inspired by my relatively new surrounds, in the Victorian country town of Dunkeld, at the southern gateway to Gariwerd, the Grampians National Park.

Although it began with a range of hand poured scented candles made with a plant-based blend of eco-friendly soy waxes and bespoke, 100% pure essential oil blends, my vision quickly expanded as I noticed people really connecting with my nature-inspired ethos. As the business evolved I saw the opportunity to ultimately build a brand with a unique aesthetic and a genuine sense of place; connecting people to the Grampians with soulfully made or thoughtfully curated products and gifts that told a story and via the senses, provided that point of connection to a deeper emotion evoked when you feel nurtured or expansive, or adventurous.

Through my community of customers, that sense of deeper connection itself has expanded and evolved organically with business; I now have a much greater understanding and appreciation for that connection - my customers don't want to simply 'buy things', they want to connect with the brand story and my personal story too. They appreciate my authenticity and vulnerability, and genuinely love to support a female founder in regional Australia, it connects deeply to their values in that way.

You've said you were inspired by country life and country living from the moment you moved to a farm in Victoria, is that still your inspiration?

Absolutely! I feel so nurtured through the exploration of it. It's never the same from day to day; the damp, the dry, the wildflowers, the rocks, the wildlife...noticing the changes in the seasons helps me feel connected to nature and the earth which is both energising and uplifting and yet also very grounding. It's very rugged, ancient terrain, but really tranquil; it's this magical contrast of intimacy and solitude and magnificent, boundless landscape.

The grandiosity and expansiveness of the mountains and the views is a constant reminder for me of the bigger picture...... There's so much more to life than what consists our day-to-day...... in life, as in nature, there's of course always delight in the detail but also so much relief and magical possibility in the vastness. It's micro and macro in harmony all at once, which I find so balancing.

From a business perspective, the Grampians region, like my brand itself, is still relatively undiscovered and up and coming, providing scope for a rethink of traditional Australian brand stereotypes. Unlike Byron Bay or Bondi, it isn't overexposed. It's still fresh, still grass-roots and a little bit indie, awaiting exploration.

The product range offers an olfactory and sensory postcard of that place and all it represents, being simplicity, slowness, Australian authenticity, rugged luxury & romance...... and finally nurture through adventure, through a uniquely feminine lens, with the objective of reframing adventure as gentle and nurturing, as soulful and softly exploratory, of treading gently, soul nourishing and savouring the moment.

Thoughtfully curated products such as recycled wool tartan blankets are consciously chosen for their sustainable element, have a historical connection to the region's namesake and to the way we live in the country; frequently finding spontaneous, nurturing moments in nature.

Heritage, landscape and lifestyle are inherently part of your brand, how to they manifest in your products?

My Grampians Grown bath & body products are made with locally-sourced ingredients from nearby farms, such as organic olive oil, hemp seed oil and essential oils celebrating providence and offering an even deeper, more layered and nuanced story of the region's primary producers and artisan makers.

Thoughtfully curated products such a recycled wool tartan blankets are consciously chosen for their sustainable element, have a historical connection to the region's namesake and to the way we live in the country; frequently finding spontaneous, nurturing moments in nature that we don't have to overthink! They're luxurious and beautiful, but being made from recycled fibres means they're also highly practical which suits the country lifestyle perfectly.

The branding itself is an image of Mount Sturgeon, a mountain within Gariwerd, the Grampians National Park, that I see every morning as I drop the kids to school!

How important to you is sustainability? We'd love to know more about the recycled wool you use.

Sustainability is integral to our brand ethos and is something that we recognise is a constant work in progress, that as a brand, we commit to finding ways to improve on all the time. Recycled wool is durable and resilient, making it perfect for our tartan and check wool blankets, as well as our adventure blankets and pillows, intended for rugged outdoor adventures with a touch of luxury.

But not only is it a perfect material for us to use, it's also an inspired way to divert wool garments from landfill and add potentially decades to their lifetime.

And with the conscious consumerism movement booming, we know that there's a growing appetite for clear information about our products and their impact on people, communities and the planet.

Like The Grampians Goods Co., RB Sellars is a family-owned Australian brand, with family values and community at its core. Also inspired by the Australian landscape and the Australian spirit, we identified a lot of synergies between our brands.

What inspires you to collaborate with a brand? What was your creative approach to your collaboration with RB Sellars for the recycled wool tartan blankets?

In a few words, it comes down to shared vision and values. Like The Grampians Goods Co., RB Sellars is a family-owned Australian brand, with family values and community at its core. Also inspired by the Australian landscape and the Australian spirit, we identified a lot of synergies between our brands.

Working with the RB Sellars team, we've been inspired by their commitment to supporting founders in regional and rural areas; it's humbling and reaffirming to have been identified by them as a brand to partner with.

Traditionally renowned for its iconic work shirts and celebration of hardworking rural Australians, as a female-founded brand we are excited to be a part of a softer shift for RB Sellars as it grows and expands its lifestyle category by including bespoke design, co-branded, limited edition recycled wool tartan and check blankets in partnership with us.

Our creative approach was to rethink two designs from The Grampians Goods Co.; a Heritage Collection Tartan and an Antipodean Picnic Check collection and have them made in colours exclusive to RB Sellars that resonate and reflect the iconic palette (muted browns, soft greys and of course that bright, work shirt blue!) RB Sellars is renowned for, as well as complimenting their current seasons fashion collection.
