Scents of Place: The Reimagined Candle Collection That Tells A Story of Place & Renewal

For over a year, Scents of Place has been in the dreaming, planning, and creating. A home fragrance collection that started as a way to share the quiet magic of the Grampians with the world—its hidden gullies, towering forests, golden heathlands, and the hush of rivers winding through ancient stone.

But as the landscape has changed, so too has this collection.

A Collection Born from a Love of Place

When I prepared to represent the Grampians region in Paris in 2023, I knew I wanted to create something truly special. Something that could bottle the spirit of this place—the crisp mountain air, the scent of the bush after rain, the warmth of sunlit wildflowers—and bring it into people’s homes, no matter how far away they were.

I thought about those quiet moments spent in the heart of the landscape—walking through the dappled light of the stringybark forests, pausing by a still river, watching cockatoos wheel through an endless sky. I wanted to capture not just scents, but the feeling of being here. The deep sense of belonging that Gariwerd inspires.

Scents of Place was created as an ode to the land. Each candle tells a story, each fragrance is a moment in time. But in early 2024, just as I was preparing to launch the collection, the fires swept through.

Suddenly, I saw everything differently.

The Reimagining of a Reimagining

Fire is a force that changes everything. The landscape I love, the one I set out to capture in scent, had been savagely reimagined in ways I never expected. And yet, in the devastation, I found something profound—resilience.

Because fire, in all its destruction, is also part of the bush’s story. It cracks open seed pods that would otherwise never bloom. It clears the undergrowth, making way for the next generation of trees. It feeds the soil with ash, preparing it for renewal. This is how the land has always worked—shaped by time, by nature, by its own cycles of destruction and regrowth.

And just as the bush renews itself, so does the community that surrounds it. People came together, showing strength, kindness, and unwavering support for one another. I realised that Scents of Place was no longer just about capturing the beauty of the Grampians—it was about honouring its resilience.

So I reimagined the collection again. And now, I’m prouder of it than ever.

Crafted with Intention, Scented with Subtlety

Each candle in the Scents of Place collection is hand-poured with sustainable ingredients, designed to burn cleanly and complement the home. Scented with essential oils, they don’t overwhelm the senses but linger softly in the background—sophisticated, subtle, and perfectly in tune with the natural world they’re inspired by.

They are not just candles; they are an invitation to pause, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature. They are an extension of the land, a way to bring the quiet strength of the Grampians into your space.

The Fragrances – A Story of Place and Renewal

Each fragrance has its own tale to tell, capturing a different moment in the landscape:

Timberline – The quiet strength of the forest, where ancient native pines and towering red gums stand tall. Beneath their branches, life stirs—cockatoos in the canopy, feather-tail gliders scurrying up the trunks, the scent of wood and earth grounding it all.

Verdure – The promise of green, the fresh breath of renewal. This is the scent of morning mist rolling through mossy gullies, of delicate leaves unfurling in the dappled light, of a land awakening once more.

Heathland – A delicate yet determined bloom, where the air hums with the sound of tiny wrens and the scent of wild heaths in flower. Bandicoots forage in the soft undergrowth, and nature carries on, as it always does.

Montane – Crisp mountain air, cool and invigorating. The peaks stand as they always have, unmoved by time, their slopes dotted with rock banksia and Grampians sheoak, the wind carrying the scent of high places.

Riverside – A winding stream, the gentle murmur of water against stone. Here, river mint and rosemary mingle with the cool scent of sandstone, a reminder that even as the landscape changes, the water still flows.

Sundial – The golden glow of late afternoon, the hum of bees in the wildflowers, the scent of sun-warmed blossoms drifting on the breeze. A fragrance that captures light, optimism, and the promise of new beginnings.

A Collection That Feels Like Home

More than ever, Scents of Place is a reflection of what home means to me. It is the scent of resilience, of strength, of a place that endures. It is a tribute to the land I love, not just as it was, but as it is, and as it will be again.

Launching this collection now, in the wake of everything that has happened, feels more meaningful than ever. Because home is not just a place. It’s a feeling. And Scents of Place is my way of sharing that feeling with you.

Light a candle. Breathe it in. And know that renewal is always unfolding, both in the land and within us.
