A blanket at this price ought to outlast almost anything else you could buy him, and ours are built to. Rather than virgin merino, we use wool offcuts and retired garments. They're separated into colour groups, shredded, spun into a brand new recycled yarn, then woven into a traditional Scottish tartan.

Recycled wool is tougher and far more practical than virgin merino, which is exactly why we're happy for you to take it to a festival, a beach, a campsite, or drag it across a paddock. It softens with use rather than wearing out.

How waterproof is the Adventure Blanket, really?

The wool top is lined with a waxed cotton oilskin, the same material used on Australian stockmen's coats. It sheds dew, wet grass and light rain from below, so he can sit down on damp ground without a second thought. It isn't a rain shell, it's built to keep the wet out from underneath.

Isn't recycled wool lower quality than new wool?

Quite the opposite for this sort of use. Wool offcuts and retired garments are separated into colour groups, shredded, spun and processed together into a new yarn, then woven into tartan. The cloth that comes out is more durable and more practical than virgin merino, which is why it handles festivals, beaches and campsites rather than only the couch.

How does he wash it?

Spot clean with a damp cloth, or hand wash and air dry. Wool is naturally odour-resistant, so a good airing does most of the work for you.
