Pure Silk Kimono - Ink

The Ink kimono is one of three pure silk robes in this first release — a deep, midnight navy that captures the stillness of nightfall and the comfort of soft shadows.

Made in Japan by a small atelier specialising in traditional garment-making, each kimono robe is dyed, cut, sewn, and finished with precision and care. The 100% silk satin (16 momme) has a weight that feels airy but grounding — a smooth, cool touch against the skin with just the right amount of sheen.

Its open, flowing shape suits most bodies and moods — worn belted or loose, over sleepwear, a slip, or layered as a duster over jeans and a tee.

The motif features cranes and plum blossoms — symbols of longevity, eternal love, and resilience in Japanese culture. Like a candle lit just for you, or a blanket thrown just so, it brings a sense of intention to the act of simply being at home.

A gift to give, or one to keep — because some luxuries should be daily, not rare.

Founder Inspiration

Some pieces arrive not from a product roadmap, but from the heart. Vignette by GGCo. is my space to share small, considered collections that speak to a slower, more beautiful life at home. These kimono robes are pieces I’ve personally fallen for — things that spark a sense of quiet luxury, or ease, even in the most ordinary of moments.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Japanese silk kimonos began to appear in the homes and wardrobes of fashionable women far from Kyoto. With the end of Japan’s centuries-long isolation during the Meiji era, a flood of beautiful, unfamiliar objects entered Europe and the West — sparking a cultural fascination known as Japonisme. Floral silk kimonos became coveted items among artists, aristocrats, and women of the new leisure class.

These robes symbolised more than beauty; they represented worldliness, refinement, and a kind of quiet indulgence. Women wore them at home — lounging in sunlit bedrooms or standing for portraits — draped in the artistry and symbolism of another culture. Designers like Paul Poiret reinterpreted them. Painters like Monet and Whistler romanticised them. And over time, in the West, they finally evolved into objects not just of fashion, but of reverence.

This collection of silk kimonos is a nod to that legacy — not as costume or replica, but as something modern women can wear with ease and intention. They are made in Japan by skilled artisans using traditional techniques, designed to bring a touch of softness and grace to your everyday rhythm. Whether wrapped around you as you brew your morning tea or worn loose at the end of a long day, each one is a quiet celebration of beauty, ritual, and the enduring power of feminine self-adornment.
